The Corbett National Park is so firmly connected in everyone’s minds with the Tiger that its many other wonders are often ignored. Few visitors to the Corbett are for example aware of the rich and exotic avifauna of the park. No less than 585 species of birds are found here. Similarly the park is rich in flora – 70 grass species and 110 species of trees.
A unique feature of the Corbett Park is its varying altitudes – at the highest point the altitude is about 4000 feet above sea level, while the lowest points are at about 1300 feet. These varying altitudes mean that the landscape of the jungle changes dramatically from one point to the other. The lower heights experience blistering heats with temperatures crossing the 40 degree mark during summers whereas in the winters Corbett could be experience severe cold waves in parts.
Of course, the Royal Bengal Tiger still remains the biggest draw of Corbett attracting visitors from India and abroad. There are few more majestic sights in this world than that of a Tiger in its full glory, and Corbett the most popular home of the big cat.
